How does an EMDR session proceed?
During EMDR, you work with memories or themes that still evoke tension. This always happens at your own pace and with attention to safety and stability. You do not have to “relive” anything you cannot handle.

Treatment process
In my practice, I usually work with a short-term course of treatment.
This aligns with how EMDR and other processing-focused methods work.
A program typically consists of:
- Intake + first session (2–2.5 hours)
- 1 to 2 follow-up sessions (2 hours per session)
- Room for integration and completion
During the intake, we will look together at what is suitable for your situation.
The session is recorded on audio. Because a lot happens during an EMDR session, you forget a lot. You can therefore listen to the session again to further anchor and strengthen the integration. Recording is, of course, not mandatory. Should you prefer not to do so.
In that case, we will omit the recording in consultation.
It can help to na een EMDR-sessie to get enough rest and build in small self-care moments. So try to keep your schedule clear after the session. Write down your experiences, talk to a trusted person, or schedule a follow-up session. This way, you better integrate the processing into your daily life.
